CONCEPTS

The blood circulatory system is a system of organs that includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood which is circulated throughout the entire body of a human or other vertebrate.

Blood vessels

Circulate blood throughout the body.

There are 3 types.

1. Arteries carry blood away from your heart.

These strong, muscular blood vessels carry oxygen-rich blood from your heart to your body.

2. Veins carry blood back toward your heart.

They have thin, less elastic walls and carry large volumes of deoxygenated blood back to your heart.

3. Capillaries, the smallest blood vessels, connect arteries and veins.

Heart

It is the center of the blood circulatory system.

The heart pumps blood to all parts of the body.

Peculiarities of the human heart

1. Size of one's fist

2. Protected inside the thorax by ribs

3. Lungs on either side

4. Covered with a double membrane called the pericardium

5. Contains four chambers

Blood

Blood is a specialized body fluid. It has four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Blood has many different functions, including transporting oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and tissues. forming blood clots to prevent excess blood loss.
